A beautiful lawn with minimal maintainance.
3-D sod is comprised of 100% Kentucky Bluegrass. As you know, there are hundreds of varieties of Kentucky Bluegrass to choose from. To help select the variety that's best for our local conditions, Greenhorizons uses data collected from National Turfgrass Evaluation, a program that evaluates different types of grass at locations across North America. The varieties that we've picked for our 3-D Sod are in the top 25% of that evaluation. The seed costs more to buy abd requires a specialized knowledge to nuture but it's well worth the results since it gives our customers distinct quality advantages over the other types of sod available.
Greenhorizons also supports and uses data compiled by the Guelph Turfgrass Institute (GTI), which is affiliated with the University of Guelph.
Creating the best sod is a constantly evolving process. Thirty years ago people just want greener 'instant' lawns. Over the years the trend went to shorter (dwarfer) grass requiring less maintenance. As time passed, a denser turf was developed making it more resistant to weeds and eliminating the need for herbicide and pesticide use. And that is what 3-D Sod is all about: Darker, Denser, Dwarfer.
We stock two varieties (L93 and Pencross) that are always fresh, handy and ready when you are.
Today, many are concerned about the environment and water conservation. Now the focus has shifted to lawns that are more drought resistant. Although Kentucky Bluegrass is the most robust, drought resistant grass, identifying and developing cultivars within Bluegrass strains is the next generation of sod we are working on. We invest in our own research and development programs, working on the best cultivar blends for our customer's future. And the results are impressive. At the Greenhorizons research plot areas, dozens of seed blends are tested to be sure they maintain their leading edge of sod quality. |
